MICHAEL BETTERS

Personal interaction with clients is key to understanding their unique situations. With over 30 years in the accounting industry, I have served thousands of individuals and small businesses. Spending the time to get to know each client personally helps me apply the knowledge I have gained to their specific needs. Because I am a small business, I can relate to many of the issues my clients deal with, and can help them overcome obstacles and warn of pitfalls as they grow.

I oversee the operations of the firm, founded in 1989. I primarily focus on providing consulting services to clients in the areas of business planning and budgeting, tax planning, growth and succession planning. I work with clients to better understand their financial statements so they can better manage their own businesses.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Lake Superior State College. I am an Enrolled Agent and a Certified Management Accountant. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends playing tennis and golf. I also have a passion for hunting, hiking, and scuba diving.

Karla Betters
New Accounts and Registration Specialist

“My goal is to provide each client with most accurate information available regarding business registrations, while making the process as easy and as painless as possible.”   

Karla has been with Betters & Associates since 1992.  She began as the sole staff member and has now advanced to the New Accounts and Registration Specialist position, in addition to handling accounts payable and other functions for the company. 

Karla loves to travel, having visited four continents so far, and has recently completed her scuba diver certification.  She enjoys time (and travelling!) with her husband, family and friends.

Senior Manager

“I enjoy helping clients better understand their financial statements and tax returns. I also add value by teaching them to use their accounting software in a more efficient way.”

Jodi joined the Betters & Associates team in 2001. She has over 20 years of experience working with QuickBooks including training, company setup and bookkeeping and accounting services. She has worked with a variety of clients, some at their location when needed. Jodi has extensive experience in preparing financial statement compilations as well as individual, corporate and non-profit tax returns.

Jodi holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and earned her Enrolled Agent certification with the Internal Revenue Service. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, the outdoors and spending time with her family and furry friends.

Gabrielle Buege
Staff Accountant

In May of 2016, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay with a Bachelors in Business Administration. I majored in accounting with a minor in business administration. In August, I joined the Betters and Associates staff. In my position as a staff accountant, my role is to assist clients with their financial and tax preparation needs. My daily tasks include financial statement preparation and analysis, payroll processing, and client assistance. I am also knowledgeable in tax accounting and work closely with both the corporate and personal tax managers in the preparation of tax returns. I plan to continue educating myself in all areas of accounting in order to provide the best service possible to my clients. Currently, I am working towards becoming a Certified Public Accountant. As a former UW-Green Bay cheerleader, I now spend my free time coaching competitive cheerleading. When I am not working or coaching, I also enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with my family and friends and my dogs.

Peggy joined the Betters and Associates team in June 2016. She has over 25 years of experience in both public and private accounting. Peggy has experience preparing both personal and business taxes. In addition, she has experience working with clients regarding payroll, sales tax and personal property returns, write up, financial statement compilation work and has knowledge working with QuickBooks. Peggy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Lakeland University. In her free time, Peggy enjoys spending lots of time with her family, dinners with friends, reading and music.

Angie Ligman
Accounting Department Supervisor

As Accounting Department Supervisor, I oversee the staff to ensure tax compliance, monitor work load, and make sure client services are met in a careful and timely manner. I continue to service a portfolio of my own clients with their needs, while ensuring that the Betters & Associates office runs smoothly.

With a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from UW-Milwaukee and more than 25 years of accounting and office administration experience, I have seen a wide array of business scenarios. I have spent 16 years in the private industry, and ten years in public accounting. I have worked in-house with companies to fill the gaps between staff needs, supported as accounting liaison in the manufacturing industry, worked closely with restaurant owners to help guide and assist with sales reporting, staff training, and proper financial statement presentation. Currently, I work with government funded schools, group homes, and public service companies that help children in need. I am involved in virtually all aspects of financial statement representation.

Because my background and diverse office experience has familiarized me with a variety of business environments, I am able see what each client needs, and able to advise each one with precision and due diligence.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband and my dog. We like to be outside all year round and enjoy a variety of outdoor sports such as boating, ATVing, hiking, and snowmobiling.

Administrative and Marketing Professional

My role in both office support and marketing gives me the opportunity to reach out and interact with clients, making them feel they’re part of our team.  Here at Betters & Associates, we’re not just working for our clients – we’re working with them.

My varied experience includes work in the public relations, nonprofit, and insurance industries, as well as film production.  I have a bachelor’s degree in Communications from UW-Milwaukee, and hold a Wisconsin health insurance license.  Having been self-employed in the past, I understand the complexities of establishing a small business, and the importance of clear communication and good tax guidance.

I enjoy sharing good music and films with friends, reading historical non-fiction, and trying my hand at gardening every summer.
